SEL Engineering Ltd. was established in 1974 as Shelter Development and Contracting Limited, a Development company with “In-house” Architectural, Structural, Project/Construction Management and Marketing expertise. We focused on multi family residential projects as Joint Venture Partners.

In 1982 the name was changed to Shelter Engineering Ltd. and we specialized in Structural Engineering and Project/Construction Management.

In 1995 we became SEL Engineering Ltd. and added the discipline of Building Envelope Consulting. Our main focus since that time has been Building Envelope Consulting for new and remedial projects and Structural Engineering.

Since 1974 our team has been involved as Owners, Developers, Project/Construction Managers, Structural Engineers and Building Envelope Professionals in a variety of Projects, located mainly in the Lower Mainland, which has given us a unique perspective.

Structural Division
The Structural Division is principled by Chungmo Chung, P. Eng. The Structural Division was established as a separate identity in 1997 when Chungmo Chung opened the Port Moody office. Along with his hard working team of technicians and draftsmen, Chungmo offers a full array of Structural Engineering services, designing commercial, institutional and residential buildings.

Building Envelope Division
The Building Envelope Division, in its present form, was established in May of 2005 when our principles Frits A. Huckriede, P.Eng. and Gary Bawtinheimer, Senior Project Consultant solidified a long standing relationship by forming a partnership, creating the new Building Envelope Division. Our team has designed and remediated a great number of Projects and has developed sound detailing for the building envelope. We take a great deal of satisfaction and pride in the services we offer to the Owners of the Projects/Buildings that we are involved with. Being a smaller firm we are able to provide a more personal and hands on approach. Our principles of the Building Envelope Division, Frits A. Huckriede and Gary Bawtinheimer are personally involved in every aspect of our projects. We meet with the Owners of the remediation projects to assure we are providing the type of repairs that they want. When required we enlist the services of an Architect in the planning stage to discuss everything from design and cladding changes to colour selection. The fees of these sub-consultants are offered at cost, with no additional fees added. We strive to confirm and thoroughly discuss every aspect of the process prior to starting the project to assure the Owner is fully aware of what is going to take place.

Over the years we have enjoyed an excellent and long-standing reputation with the Building Departments of Vancouver and the other Municipalities in the Lower Mainland.
